Problem Space

Chromecast Redesign

How to minimally improve the product’s user experience and remain true to Google’s UX guidelines.

10ft TV Package & Add On Management

How seamlessly allow the user to upgrade and downgrade TV packages, new streaming add ons (i.e. HBO MAX, NBA TV, Stars), cloud storage, and more while underlining business & marketing is changing at the same time.

Role

Senior Product & UX Designer

Audience

Dominantly male and above their 50s. Most users are avid sports & news watchers with less on demand watching.

Solution

Chromecast Redesign

Redesign the Chromecast experience to allow persistent control of playback, improve screen real estate usage to emphasize content, and implement missing elements of Google’s UX guidelines.

10ft TV Package & Add On Management

Emphasize clear copy, information hierarchy, and information shown to make complicated tasks with the TV remote tangible.

Chromecast Sender Expanded Controller.

For both live and on demand content, changing the mobile video player upon casting to become a functional interface. Allowing playback control, and needed information about the currently playing content.

Chromecast 10ft States.

Simplified playback and casting states to communicate information needed by the user and nothing more.

Chromecast Content Navigation & Discovery

Upon casting removing all video player UI, to emphasize content categories, live streaming guide selections, and more. Appropriately making the phone about control and content, then the TV about watching content.
